OUR IMPACT

Local Families

Helping Local Families in Need

Building a stronger Somers starts at home. While the Lions lead these local initiatives, it is your generosity that puts gifts under holiday trees, sends children to camp, and stocks our local food pantries. Together, we ensure no neighbor is left behind.

Camp Scholarships

The Somers Lions Club and Stephanie’s Mission provide full scholarships to send local children to the six-week Somers Day Camp at Reis Park. This program ensures those from families in need can attend Summer Camp.

Academic Scholarships

The Somers Lions Club scholarship program awards financial grants to graduating seniors who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service and academic achievement.

Holiday Adopt-a-Family

A program is a long-standing holiday initiative designed to provide gifts and support to local families in need within our community. It is a collaborative effort involving the Lions Club, the Somers Retired Teachers, and Social Workers within the Somers Central School District.

Families in Crisis

Our mission is to ensure that no Somers neighbor lives in an unsafe environment due to an unexpected life crisis. We provide emergency assistance for vital home safety repairs, focusing on those most vulnerable in our community who have nowhere else to turn.

Apply for Aid

Beyond our own programs, we proudly fundraise for local partners who share our mission.

Addressing the Drug Crisis

We are committed to a healthy Somers. By collaborating with Partners for Prevention, we fund education and prevention programs to address the drug crisis head-on, providing families with the tools to stay safe and informed.

Supporting Our Veterans

Through our partnership with My Brother Vinny, we help provide furniture and home essentials to formerly homeless veterans moving into permanent housing.

Food Drives

The Lions act as a major benefactor for the St. Luke’s Somers Food Pantry, which is the primary distribution hub for the town.

Pediatric Health

Pediatric Health

Our commitment to pediatric health is fueled entirely by the generosity of our community. Your donations provide the vital resources needed to support these life-changing charities and protect the well-being of our youngest neighbors.

Friends of Karen

Through our partnership with Friends of Karen, we provide a lifeline to families in our backyard. We help ensure that no parent has to choose between their child’s care and their family's basic needs during a medical crisis.

Pediatric Hope

We are proud supporters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, funding the "magic" that gives critically ill children the strength to keep fighting.  Our support helps provide "Tiny Miracles" for fragile infants and grants life-changing wishes for children facing critical illnesses.

Autism & Inclusion Support

Partnering with BluePath Service Dogs, we help provide highly-trained service dogs to children with autism.

Specialized Pediatric Care

We contribute directly to Blythedale Children’s Hospital, the region's leader in pediatric specialty care. Our support helps provide the advanced medical and rehabilitative services that help fragile infants and children return home.

Vision

Vision Care & Sight Preservation

Restoring sight and preventing blindness has been a cornerstone of the Lions mission for over a century. While our members lead these vital local programs, it is your donations that provide the screenings, and specialized support needed to change lives.

Early Detection - Lions SEE

Through our Lions S.E.E. (Screening Eyes Early) program, we provide free, high-tech vision screenings for children in Somers schools and daycares.

Eyeglass Recycling

Our mission extends far beyond our borders. We host ongoing eyeglass collection drives throughout Somers, gathering thousands of used frames annually. These are cleaned and distributed to those in need worldwide.

Beyond our local work, we bridge community support to world-class vision organizations.

Guide Dogs for the Blind

Our long-standing support of Guiding Eyes for the Blind helps provide world-class guide dogs to individuals with vision loss.

Rehabilitation & Independent Living

We contribute directly to the VISIONS Center for Blindness (VCB), supporting their mission to help individuals of all ages live independently. Our donations help provide the vocational training and adaptive technology needed to thrive.

Diabetes

Diabetes Awareness & Wellness

The Somers Lions Club supports diabetes awareness, screenings, and community health programs that promote early detection and better management of the disease. Donations help fund local and regional initiatives dedicated to improving diabetes care and education.

Strides for a Cure

We fund and participate in Lions Strides events across Westchester. These walks do more than raise research funds; they provide a powerful community platform for diabetes education and healthy living.

Diabetes Camps

We fund specialized diabetes camps and community programs that provide children and families with the medical tools, peer support, and confidence needed to manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes every day.

Early Detection & Help

Through our community Health Day screenings, we provide free access to vital health metrics. We help neighbors catch early warning signs of diabetes to encourage proactive care and prevent long-term complications.

Sustainable Wellness

Through the co-founding of Lions Fit 4 Life, we provide a localized, expert-led roadmap for neighbors looking to take control of their health through sustainable lifestyle changes and nutrition.

Tomorrow's Leaders

SOMERS LEOS

Our LEOs are the next generation of leaders, young people from Somers High School who are driven to serve their community. Through hands-on projects, fundraising, and volunteer work, they learn the power of giving back and the joy of making a difference.

“Nothing is better than seeing smiles on peoples faces that we help. One day I hope to throw on one of these purple shirts and be a Lion myself.”
